Album Review : ( Re-Release ) : Timhamba by Mzee & Rafiki @Rafiki_sa @IamMzilikazi
If house was a nation I wanna be president! Famous line from the track President House( When you know you know).
Timhamba (Xitsonga for ‘Ancestral Rituals’) by Mzee & Rafiki is a Pan African Album and its everything about tribal house music and Africa. This re-release had to be done more especially at a time where African music is at its pinnacle. This 25 Track Double Album celebrates African languages and the duo has mastered different elements of African music. These collaborations are not only legendary but it touches the root of African Music, offers originality, uniqueness and continental unity.
This epic project joined artists from over 10 countries, with different languages collaborating together to make beautiful music. The Album features some of the biggest musicans in Africa including Uhuru, Kani , Alino , Jorgen Stenberg , Brenda Mtambo, the Legend Salif Keita , The Mansa of Mali and Hishishi. The album features many more talented African musicians as well.
Mzee explains “We are modern-day musical anthropologists who are reflecting the continent’s cultural identity through tribal sounds. House music is essentially about dance, but we use it as a medium through which positive messages are transmitted,”
I look forward to listening to their new music as they have a lot to offer and we need to be motivated to go back to our roots and connect. The album is available all all major music streaming services. Check out the link below:
